450 MW CAOFEIDIAN OFFSHORE VAWT WINDFARM, A CHINA-US ECOPARTNERSHIP
We have signed an agreement with the Caofeidian New Zone Management Commission to develop a 450 MW offshore VAWT windfarm to provide low- cost green electricity from offshore wind to the New Zone. The New Zone is located 220 km east of Beijing, south of Tangshan, on a piece of built-up land into the Bohai Bay. Since 2003, the Chinese government has poured over US$10 billion into the New Zone to develop it into northern China's major deep-water harbor with drafts of over 30 meters for large ocean-going ships and tankers. In addition, the New Zone has established a large, environmentally-friendly industrial development zone, including an eco-city nearby, with areas of over 1,900 square kilometers.
Besides being in a very important location, our 450 MW Caofeidian Offshore Windfarm project has been selected as one of the projects in the China-US EcoPartnership Program, under the China–US Ten-Year Energy and Environment Cooperation Framework. The official signing ceremony was held on December 4, 2008, during the “Fifth China–US Strategic Economic Dialog” (SED) at Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing. The signing was witnessed by SED delegations of both nations. The Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan lead a delegation with 21 ministers and deputy ministers. (Former) Secretary of Treasury, Henry Paulson lead the US delegation with fifteen cabinet members and agency heads.
